Cllr Nick Rose (Westbourne & West Cliff Ward) and PSCO Emily Cooke invited the residents of St Michael's Lane / Mews and Road who front/back onto St Michael's Lane to an open meeting to discuss the security of St Michael’s Lane, and what can be done to improve it.

It was well attended, by 11 residents, two children and a dog (Basil).

This Blog is here to allow those residents to have an on-going conversation.

  • DEEP CLEAN: We expect to have a deep clean of the one way system of St Michael's Road and Purbeck Road in the next 8 weeks

  • LINE PAINTING: This will be followed the same day by re-painting all of the lines in the roads.

  • GATE: Unfortunately, it is impossible to have a gate on the entrance, sorry. Legislation reads that you cannot do this: "if properties have their only or main entrance coming from the route in question"

  • BOLLARD: I have asked if a bollard could be placed instead to stop cars from parking there (see photo of a prize idiot above - thanks Stuart G for the photo!).
    • The council will consider this IF there is still a problem with parking cars there once the double yellow lines have been repainted. The bollard could be collapsible to allow council vehicles going up there

  • NEW LIGHTS: Subject to budget, the Council is willing to install lights on the walls of #2 St Michael's Lane and #4 St Michael's Mews
    • We are waiting on getting the address details of the Property Owners so the Council Solicitor can write to them for approval

  • UPGRADING LIGHTS: The two street lamps already there need upgrading to LEDs and the Council will do this as part of their standard work program

  • CUL-DE-SAC SIGNS: I have not yet had a response from the Council on this, but it maybe that I asked the wrong person :-(

  • BIN MEN COLLECTING BINS FOR ST MICHAEL'S MEWS: I am waiting on the Council to see whether they can pull your bins down to the road rather than you having to do it the night before

  • USE OF BIN AREA: I emailed the owners regarding the bin area for use by St Michael's Mews. TBA

  • OVER THE RAINBOW TRADE WASTE BIN: I spoke with the very nice chaps at OTR, and they said they will ask their waste collection provider to swap that large bin for two smaller bins, which they will keep behind their gate
