Bournemouth Borough Councillor

I was very proud to be one of three very active Councillors for my home ward of Westbourne and West Cliff in Bournemouth, where we prided ourselves in responding to residents issues quickly and decisively.

I was de
lighted to be serving on the following Overview and Scrutiny Panels, areas in which I am still extremely passionate about:
  • Corporate
  • Economy and Tourism
  • Community

Prince's Trust

The Prince's Trust helped me set up my first business by loaning me 50% of the money I required, with Barclays lending me the other 50%. The Prince's Trust also provided me with a business mentor who regularly visited me to talk through my problems and to give me valuable advice.

I then became involved with the Trust for a while, from sitting on the local board, sifting through new proposals, to interviewing candidates to see if the Trust's assistance would be a help to the young entrepreneur, or to avoid the assistance becoming a hindrance.

Foodbank

I'm helped my local Foodbanks prepare a 5 day lesson plan for secondary schools and single parents.

This short course, makes those involved more aware about life and responsibilities after leaving home.

The focus is on "budgeting finances" and "sensible eating", which are the main reasons why people find themselves using Foodbanks when their financial situation suddenly changes.

Job Clubs

I recently worked with local Job Clubs to deliver free interview skills and CV workshop for unemployed people. I coordinated those unemployed managers to help other job seekers with lesser experience by improving interview skills and providing one to one mentoring on CV, letter writing and interview techniques.  Job seekers had the chance to have mock interviews, providing informed feedback from those managers with over 30years of experience.
The Andover Advertiser has written two articles about the Andover Job Club Skills Training free course we ran:

"A FREE course is being offered to jobseekers in Andover.  The free job searching skills training course will start on Tuesday, 13 May at King Arthur’s Hall.

Local entrepreneur Nick Rose has teamed up with Janet Palmer, of the Andover Jobs Club, Kevin Moore and members of the Andover Careers Action group.

Every Tuesday afternoon for six weeks, anyone seeking a job can receive individual mentoring from experienced managers to improve their interview skills..."
