My Political Priorities
|
My Role as Your MP

I strongly believe that if elected as an MP, my duty is to my Country and then my Constituency, then the Conservative Party and finally any ambitions I have for a career in Government.
My job as an MP would be to champion the needs of all my Constituents and fight for their corner wherever I could.
In order to be most effective I would work tirelessly to put myself at the heart of my Constituency and at the heart of Parliament.
This would give me the chance to make a difference to people's lives by championing theirs and the constituency's issues, then debating and voting on legislation to make the country a safer, stronger, fairer and nicer place to live in.
By holding weekly surgeries, meeting with organisations and campaigning on doorsteps and in the street, I would be in the unique position of being able to get to know the constituency's complexities and issues.
As an MP I would be able to reach out to my constituents and try to help them, particularly those who are vulnerable and less able to help themselves than others. As an MP I would be able to help my constituents by simply writing a letter on their behalf or lobbying ministers, participating in Parliamentary debates or introducing a Private Members Bill.
In instances of gross injustice or unfairness, or an unwanted governmental decision, as an MP I can act as the figurehead to organise and vigorously campaign on behalf of my constituent or constituency.

My Skills, Qualities and Strengths

I feel I possess many of the skills needed to become a good Conservative MP as I have a keen understanding of politics with an ability to grasp a wide range of topics and their implications.
I enjoy public speaking and am able to explain simply a complicated subject or position. I have good one to one skills and like investigating problems logically, considering both sides of an argument.
I am an excellent organiser, even when under pressure and very often it is my knowledge and practical advice plus my ability to think ahead that can help solve people's problems.
Additionally, I am an electronics engineer with a background in manufacturing: skills which are barely represented in the House of Commons.
As for the qualities to become a good Conservative MP, I am honest, loyal, have a healthy dose of common sense and a strong sense of right and wrong. Additionally I truly empathise with other people's problems and have a genuine interest in their concerns plus an eagerness to help. I also possess the energy and drive to enthuse support from others, allowing me to be a great team leader with the ability to delegate and manage.
My biggest strengths as a possible Conservative MP are that I am a well rounded individual with a wide range of life experiences. I am a self made, financially independent businessman of 23 years having set up and run several successful companies. I have looked after the welfare of staff in business and voluntary organisations for over 16 years and I have been in the TA for a decade, serving on the Front Line in Afghanistan. I have spent a lifetime involved in community groups and I have almost 2 decades of 'grass roots' political experience in many Conservative Associations.
It may be considered that my weakness in becoming a Conservative MP is that, because whilst serving in the TA, I was unable to hold an elected public office or be a candidate in a General Election before. However, I hope that you will consider the following points:

- 21 years experience as a grassroots Conservative activist
- Helped organise four General Election campaigns for first time Parliamentary candidates, in three Dorset constituencies
- Stood as a candidate in eight local elections
- Campaigned vigorously in dozens of marginal seats
- Been an agent for many elections, including managing 36 candidates in Poole's first Unitary Authority elections as a paid agent
- For the last 18 months I have been running the Mutual Aid for the Party's 5th most important 40:40 target seat, where I organised the biggest Super Saturday in the UK, recruiting 104 activists to deliver the entire constituency on January 10th 2015
